One of Lydia's favorite bands is Final Fantasy [wp], so when it was announced that they'd (he'd) be coming to Vancouver for a show on the University of British Columbia campus she snapped up tickets right away. Last night was the show and it was actually pretty good. The entire show is done by one fellow, Owen Pallett, on violin with a ton of looping and just a tiny bit of piano.
There's two albums out, and it's worth checking out if you've got the time and inclination. His last album won the first Polaris Music prize the day before yesterday, so it's award winning don't you know. If you like violin based indie music this is right up your alley. Pallet did a lot of the string arrangements on the Arcade Fire album that everyone loves so much, so if you're into the music it's likely you've heard some of his work before. If you've gone to a U2 concert on their latest tour it's also likely you've heard his work, since U2 comes onto the stage to "Wake Up" by the Arcade Fire.
It all comes back to Bono doesn't it?
P.S. I forgot to add that I actually really enjoyed opener Bob Wiseman [wp]. His music was good and his videos were hilarious.
Go to one random page in Explore Audio. What CD do you see that you're most interested in listening to?
There is no CD currently out on the market that I'm interested in listening to that I haven't already. So my answer is going to have to be something that's yet to hit the store shelves, and in fact has yet to be recorded. I'm interested in whatever Matthew Good is going to do next, I think that all his stuff has been a very promising progression and now that he sort of feels that his first stage of his career is done and closed off with the release of his singles collection In A Coma: 1995 - 2005 it sounds like he's going to be willing to do a lot experimenting more than he's done in the past.
So yeah, what Matt Good's got in his head. That's the next CD I want to hear.
Apparently it's listening to terrible music day at work, because we've got the Nick Lachey album What's Left of Me playing on the stereo in the store. I didn't know he had an album. I didn't want to know that he had an album. I didn't want to hear his album. Sadly all these things have been demolished over the last few hours listening to terrible, terrible music made by the former Mr. Jessica Simpson.
I want it to end before my ears start bleeding. Hell I hope my ears start bleeding soon so it'll block out the pain.
